As one of the most active and enthusiastic teams in the Irvine Swim League (ISL), the Quail Hill Swim Team provides a fun, competitive swim program for kids and families in the City of Irvine. Following a successful 2011 season as Division Champs, we are very excited about the summer ahead! We want all our kids and families and swimmers (ages 5 - 18) to feel welcome, and a part of our swim team!
The Registration Days for the 2012 season will be Wednesday, March 28th for Returning Families, and Sunday, April 1st for New Families. We are looking forward to welcoming back returning families, as well as new families, from Quail Hill and other parts of the Irvine community! Our team is proud to have some of the best professional coaches in Southern California who will be leading our kids during their season practices, to get ready for weekend competitions.
Benefits There are many benefits of the Quail Hill Swim Team (QHST) to the community of Irvine, including bringing families together, teaching our kids a valuable lifetime skill, improving our kids' health and self-esteem, and providing fun competition against other Irvine community teams. The QHST was formed by a group of parents in Quail Hill who simply wanted to help our kids and bring families in the surrounding area together with a fun, healthy activity. Currently, there are 19 swim teams in Irvine with approximately 2,000 participating children (ages 5 to 18). Of course, the Quail Hill Barracudas are one of the most enthusiastic, fun, and successful teams – and we are looking forward to the 2012 season!
We want to thank the QH HOA for their on-going support of the Quail Hill Barracudas. We also want to extend our deep appreciation to our generous sponsors - and we encourage Quail Hill families to do business with our sponsors!
2012 Swim Season Our 2012 Swim Season will start on Tuesday, May 29th and will last through August 5th . We hope to have REGISTRATION DAY and evaluations for new swimmers in the first few months of 2012. Registration is limited to 120 registrations (maximum allowed by the league). All swimmers are required to demonstrate, through an evaluation session, their ability to proficiently swim freestyle for minimum of 25 yards (the team is not for swimmers that are just learning to swim for the first time). In addition to daily practices at the Knollcrest Pool, we compete in Saturday "Home" swim meets at the Commons Pool, and "Away" meets against other community swim teams throughout Irvine. We also participate in the Irvine Championship Meet with all 19 teams at the end of the summer season.
Our Coaches We are proud to have some of the top professional swim coaches in Southern California, including returning coaches Rod Hansen, Brent Burgoyne, Katy Williams, Gina Sirijariyavat, and Taylor Ota. With many years of experience, including the coaching of high school and Olympic swimmers, Coach Rod and Coach Brent are lead coaches on the internationally renowned Irvine NOVA swim team. As one of the top swim programs in the United States, NOVA has produced one of the best Junior Olympic teams in the country, as well as many Olympic Gold Medalists such as Amanda Beard, Aaron Piersol, and Jason Lezak. We are truly privileged to have such high-level coaching, including our team of top-notch Assistant Coaches, joining our Quail Hill Swim Team! They love to teach kids of all ages – beginning swimmers and advanced swimmers alike.
Practices.
Although swimming is considered an “individual sport”, it is also a “team sport”. While we seek to promote fun, we do ask that each swimmer commits to giving his/her best effort at all times in order to improve his/her individual performance, and to help the team.
The Quail Hill Swim Team (QHST) offers practices five days a week during most weeks. It is a great way for our swimmers to get daily exercise and to improve their stroke techniques with our professional staff.
While we understand that some swimmers may not be able to make all the daily practices, we ask that they try to make at least 3 to 5 practices per week.
The QHST practice will be organized by age groups, and will generally last 45 –75 minutes, depending on the age group, every Monday through Friday during the summer, except for holidays.
In addition to our regular practice times, there will be periodic optional special clinics taught by our coaches to focus on key skills - e.g. Starts & Finishes, Turns, etc...

Get Involved There are many volunteer opportunities for parents and families to get involved in the organizational and leadership aspects of the Quail Hill Swim Team – and we welcome participation. More important than any other organized sports, the success of our swim team and our swim meets does rely on the volunteer participation of the parents – and so it is a requirement for being a part of our team. Also, as a non-profit organization, we depend on donations to help pay for our equipment and on-going costs. We offer different levels of sponsorships, including advertising, to local businesses and professionals. If interested in sponsoring the Quail Hill Swim Team, please click on the "Contact Us" link.
If you would like more information about joining the team in 2012, please also use the "Contact Us" link.
For our team's families, please check with this website regularly for important updates, events, and photographs.
We look forward to enjoying another summer ahead in a healthy, competitive way, with new friends and families, while building a greater sense of community for many years to come!
